About our upholstery cleaning service

Upholstery absorbs everything a room contains — body oils, food, dust, pet hair — and unlike a carpet it is rarely cleaned. A sofa that looks merely tired is usually holding several years of accumulated soil in the fabric.

Upholstery needs more care than carpet, because the fabric is thinner, the colours are less stable and there is padding underneath that must not be soaked. The fabric type dictates the method entirely: velvet, linen, cotton, chenille and synthetics all behave differently.

We check the manufacturer's cleaning code where there is a label, and test an inconspicuous area before cleaning anything visible. That step matters — it is what prevents watermarking and colour movement on a piece of furniture you cannot simply replace.

How it works

Four steps from first enquiry to the job being done.
  1. Tell us what needs cleaning

The pieces involved, roughly their size, the fabric if you know it, and any particular marks.

  2. Get your quote

Priced per piece, based on size, fabric and condition rather than a flat rate.

  3. We check before we clean

We read the care label, identify the fabric and test an unseen area before touching anything visible.

  4. We clean and leave to dry

We clean with controlled moisture and advise how long to leave the furniture before use.

Upholstery Cleaning FAQs

The questions we get asked most about this service.

How long before I can use the furniture again?

Typically several hours, and longer for thicker fabrics or in a poorly ventilated room. We use as little moisture as the fabric needs and will tell you what to expect for your particular pieces.

Can you clean any type of fabric?

Most, but not all. Some fabrics are marked dry-clean only, and a few — certain silks and delicate natural fibres — carry real risk of watermarking or shrinkage. If we find that after checking, we will tell you rather than proceed and hope.

Will cleaning remove pet odour?

It usually improves it substantially, because much of the odour sits in the fabric itself. If it has soaked into the padding beneath, cleaning the surface will only go so far, and we will be straight with you about that.

Do you clean mattresses?

Yes, mattress cleaning is available on request. It is worth asking about if anyone in the house has dust allergies.

Why test a hidden area first?

Because some fabrics lose colour or watermark when cleaned, and there is no way to know from looking. Testing somewhere unseen means that if a fabric is going to react, it happens where nobody will ever see it.
